Market Snap-Shots • Ineos finally does deal with Sartor - Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi has announced that Ineos and Italian company Safi have signed an agreement at the Ministry for Economic Development for the sale by Ineos of its VCM and PVC production facilities in Italy to Safi, owned by Fiorenzo Sartor.
• Arkema sells Italian PVC compounding - French materials major Arkema is selling one of its two Italian PVC compounding facilities to Italian machinery and distribution company Industrie Generali. The facility in Vanzaghello, close to Malpensa airport, generates sales of about €22m per annum, Arkema says, and employs 19 people. Industrie Generali is headquartered in Samarate, just 6km away. The acquisition is effective from 1 March.
• U.S. PVC pipe, conduit makers -
PVC pipe and conduit makers are going into full-fledged survival mode in 2009. Price-driven competition combined with free-falling resin pricing near the end of 2008 created a brutal environment for pipe and conduit extruders as they were forced, in some cases, to sell pipe for less than they paid for the resin to make it.
